Home Removals Battersea: Dealing with the Heavy Boxes

Posted on 07/08/2014

Being prepared for your moving day is often half the battle. Being one step ahead of anything that could possibly go wrong is the best way to ensure a smooth move without any setbacks. However, though this is easy to say beforehand, in reality being completely prepared for something is a lot harder than this. The likelihood is that something will be thrown up that is out of your control and affects you and your move. However, one thing that you are in complete control of in your Battersea move is packing up your boxes and handling your items with care. Below is a list of tips on how to make sure your items that may prove difficult to handle remain unscathed throughout the move.

Firstly, it is important to consider hiring the professionals in the form of a Battersea removal company. These people are trained in handling the heavy and sometimes awkward parts of your removal and will have the knowledge to avoid damage to your possessions and injury to yourself or others during the move. Alongside this, if necessary they will bring special removal equipment such as winches that you may not have access to or be able to operate. This will mean that, as long as due notice is given, your Battersea home removal will go as smoothly as possible, regardless of how heavy some of your possessions are. However, it is vital to give the removal company as much information as you can, and if something is particularly heavy or difficult, tell them about it so that they can adapt to the task at hand.

However, beyond this, there are some things that you can do to help ease the stress of heavy boxes. Whilst a removal company can help you on the day itself, you will have to prepare and pack your belongings up yourself and this can present some difficulties for you. Boxes will obviously vary wildly in what they can hold without breaking, but there are a few tips to keep in mind. Firstly, it’s important to not over pack boxes. This could be in terms of weight or in terms of size. It’s important not to try and pack more than 20kg into each box, regardless of size. For smaller boxes, this could result in the box falling through and the contents falling out, but the simple fact is that anything above this weight can be very difficult to carry. Remember also to not let the boxes overflow; being able to actually close and seal the boxes is important so that things don’t fall out in the move.

If you are carrying fragile items, it may be important to add extra protection to the boxes. This could take the form of taping up the bottom of a box to ensure that it does not fall through when you pick it up. Also, though professional packing supplies such as bubble wrap, Styrofoam nuggets and packing paper are advised, you can make do by using your dish towels, bath towels and other such items to pack around your fragile items to try and protect them. As just mentioned, professional packing supplies are not only available, but they are available at a very reasonable price at various places online. This is a very good way of ensuring your possessions are protected, as they will guarantee quality and will be brand new. Though asking for boxes at from your local shop may be convenient, the boxes are often built for light goods such as crisps and chocolate and not for the heavier objects in your home, whereas these boxes are designed with moving in mind. It may cost a bit more, but it is a great way to try and protect your goods whilst moving.
